For a quarter century I have been impressed by the range of talents and interpersonal skills Bea brings to every task. I watched her grow the Northwest AIDS Foundation from a mere vision to a multi-million dollar service and advocacy giant. She simultaneously built community-based service programs and assumed a leadership role in developing and passing the Washington State AIDS Omnibus bill. She is as good as they get!

Taking Action Where We Can

A friend of mine continues to find ways to move the needle to make something good come from a painful tragedy.

A colleague and friend of mine has been taking steps over the past 2-3 years to make something good come from her son's long illness and death.  The efforts she and her husband have taken to start from where they are inspires me and reminds me of the lessons in the book Getting to Maybe: How the World is Changed that we featured a few months ago.  Debbie and Len are working with what opporunity, resources and influence they have on hand and moving from there.  Watch the recent video on local television about their efforts to raise funds for a drug trial to give people with Batten disease hope of a treatment.
